Strategy
A plan for the market, not just a reaction to it.
Currency exposure rarely arises at a convenient time. Our strategy service is built for clients, private and corporate, who need to think several moves ahead of a single transaction.
We turn each currency exposure into a clear plan for when to act, how much to exchange and where certainty or flexibility matters most.
Strategy begins with the exposure
The market is one part of the decision.
Exchange rates matter, but they should not be considered in isolation.
The timing of the underlying transaction, the certainty of the amount, available cash flow and the consequences of an adverse movement all influence the appropriate approach.
We begin by understanding these factors. This allows the currency strategy to reflect the client's actual priorities rather than depend on a single market view or target rate.

Our strategic approach
The detail behind every strategy.
- Bespoke currency planning
- Every strategy is built around a specific requirement, timeline and tolerance for currency movement. We consider what needs to be paid or received, when it is expected and how much certainty the client requires at each stage.
- Exposure mapping
- Where several currency requirements exist, we bring them together into a clearer picture. This may include future purchases, overseas income, supplier payments, investments, liabilities or recurring commitments across different currencies and dates.
- Risk and timing strategies
- We help clients consider when and how to enter the market, including whether to transact immediately, hedge part or all of an anticipated requirement, or divide the execution across several stages. The objective is not to predict every market movement. It is to create an approach that remains appropriate across a range of possible outcomes.
- Proactive market monitoring
- Once the relevant market levels and priorities have been agreed, we monitor the currencies connected to the requirement. Your consultant can provide relevant market context and contact you when agreed conditions arise, allowing decisions to be considered within the strategy already established.
- Complex international requirements
- Some exposures involve several currencies, jurisdictions, entities or advisers. We help organise the currency and payment elements of the requirement, while working alongside the client's legal, tax and financial advisers where appropriate.
- Ongoing review
- A strategy should develop when the underlying circumstances change. We review the approach as payment dates become clearer, values are confirmed or new currency requirements arise. This keeps the strategy connected to the transaction rather than fixed to assumptions made at the outset.
Any strategy or market information provided by K2 FX relates to the management and execution of currency requirements. The availability and suitability of particular execution methods or hedging solutions will depend on the client's circumstances and may be subject to eligibility, approval and additional terms.
A framework for better decisions
Strategy for different situations.
- A known future payment
- Where the value and date are relatively certain, the priority may be greater cost certainty before the payment falls due.
- An amount that may change
- If the final amount depends on a sale, valuation, negotiation or another event, the strategy may need to protect part of the exposure while keeping flexibility over the rest.
- Recurring currency flows
- Businesses and private clients with regular income or expenditure in different currencies may benefit from a repeatable framework rather than a new decision each time.
- Several connected transactions
- Where payments, receipts and liabilities fall across different dates and currencies, they can be considered together.
Revisit the plan, not the conversation.
Your dedicated consultant remains familiar with the exposure and the reasoning behind the agreed approach. As new information emerges, we can revisit the plan without beginning the conversation again.
For clients with ongoing international interests, this continuity creates a clearer way to manage currency decisions over time.
